Romagioca 2015

Back to September! A lot of things to do and so I’m late with reports of past events scheduling. Let’s begin with this game convention in Roma, the 20th of September.

T-shirts, hot weather (but rainy) and wargames in a sporting centre. All was mainly under a pavilion but other tables were around. Roman people is very individualistic so it’s almost impossible to organise something larger. However you could find a lot of people involved in local wargaming scene. Even from our region as this naval table from Latina.

Some local shops were present too. But not their customers. Not so great advertising for the event, as usual. Advertising means money and energy to spend, but without it means no people around. People organise events but doesn’t work on them properly. It is a matter of time and resources. Of mind too. However it is all volunteering work, so we must praise them in spite of everything. The problem for who is in the commercial side of wargaming and gaming is that everyone thinks to his garden and none thinks to spread garden culture. Events like this one must be the arrival of a common path, not a extemporaneous moment.

Children are the resource for the future of wargame, or what wargame will be in the future. Easy games were run for this. Great!

More table around.

The Gundam club and a wargame with mobile suits. I have to find time to try it. This club is very involved in spreading Gundam culture. They participate to translation and adaptation of Gundam manga and anime in Italy.

Boardgame space run by Reindeers club. I think that adding boardgames players at this event would be a great thing. Wargame and boardgame are two different things but they are always “-game” with people who can enjoy both.

Soldiers on ploughed camp.

Lego wargaming is something to explore more!

Our Ganesha Games tables.

Fungi scenario to try.

The first preview of new rules about venationes. Ferrum et Gloria development still run!

What for next year? I hope still this convention and more. Rome is a big city and I wish it as a great city for wargaming.

Lucca C&G 2014: Lego [part7]

Nowadays Lego is more common among fairs and modelling conventions. Marketing, films and adult fans made this. We had in Lucca C&G a stand with a free construction zone in Games pavilion and a couple of exhibitions around, with a large area in Family Palace, the ancient palace dedicated by Lucca C&G to children activities.

This year theme was “Star Wars”, or I think it was because you could find a lot related to Star Wars around. However in the fair an entire pavilion was for “Star Wars” with another one only for its reenactors.

Minifigs are ideal for wargame. As this one. Planet of ice battle.

If you are a professional collector you can enlist a full army of Imperial minifigs. Here there are 816 soldiers with some special troops, officials and rebels added.

Ewoks as they were filmed…

And now more Church of Gundam.

Space Shuttle and astronauts. A vintage image due to dismiss.

A slice of Genova city.

A Lego city, from kits and personal creations.

A piece of the huge “Games of Thrones” diorama. Maybe you can play with it, due to the huge availability of minifigs ready for a wargame.

Lucca C&G 2014: more robots [part6]

More robots in Lucca C&G: exhibitions and action figures for sale.

Patlabor. Waiting for the revamp following the live action version in 2015.

Biped tank.

A must: Ma.K.s

A knight robot with lots of mechanical parts.

A Luca Zampriolo’s creation. This year he was a Lucca C&G official guest.

Godzilla in a church exhibition. Yes, Godzilla in the house of God…

Gamera too.

And the Captain Harlock’s ship.

Inside this edition of Lucca C&G you could find around a lot of things related to Gundam and its world: exhibitions, clubs, vendors.

Inside a church the official Italian club and an exhibition.

The Gundam cockpit in life size.

Gundam shorts on rotation on church altar. Can we think about the existence of a Church of Gundam? Taking in consideration all the dedication of fans, so many years after its debut on TV screens in Italy, surely I can say so.

Some new models for sale. In the original story there were only few kinds of mobile suits. Now it seems that in a one year war there were a lot of models and variations that we couldn’t suspect at all.

I don’t understand limited editions with strange materials and look like this transparent model.

A huge mobile suit by Zion. No bookshelf is big enough for this one.

More canonic models in this exhibition.

Zaku in various scales. For the size look at the child behind the glass.

A bigger Zaku. Look at the size of the screen at his feet.

It is a wargame. A scenario to play with small models.

Newer models from one of the Gundam series. Zion side. They are very beautiful. A great mecha design.

Anti-tank sniper from Federation.

Gundam cosplay. The Italian club is growing faster.

Gundam made by Lego.

A Zaku dance. It should be a ritual of this Church of Gundam.

Dr. Who this evening

At 19.50 Greenwich time the new Doctor Who series with Peter Capaldi will be aired. Here in Italy an hour after because of Rome time, and I think I follow it. So no Saturday night go out, however maybe tomorrow very early I will go to Terni for another work session on Ferrum et Gloria editing.

Salone del modellismo – Macerata

We crossed Apennines to go to a modelling fair in Macerata for two days. It was inside a larger fair about second hand and vintage objects.

Large halls and a lot of things to buy. The modelling part was the widest that I personally ever saw in Italy.

Among models I found these two Zaku dioramas. I like them a lot.

A modelling contest for various categories was held in the fair. Here some of what I think is the best.

Germany navy.

Italian navy: motorboat with explosive charge inside.

Three Italians tanks in Africa.

Picchiatello, the Italian Stukas.

Reenactors about Italian war in Africa.

More helmets.

There was space for various kinds of rc models.

From these photos you could believe that all was inside only a structure, instead these were three, one covered and closed (where we were), one covered, one half covered.

I bought only a couple of coins for my collection and four little cars. We were not so interested in other things, we are more miniatures oriented than generic vintage objects. But on the way to home we stopped to Col Fiorito to buy some cheese, lentils and beans. We wished to visit more the surroundings but hast is a bad mate, so we visited only where we sleep (a very little rural hamlet with a huge and ancient knight templar church built over pre-Roman sacred site), roads among hills and mountains, the fair, and good and bargain restaurants. We saw the Adriatic sea too.

April report

Some news about the last month that I didn’t put on these pages.

Romics is the opportunity to buy comics and watch cosplayers. I went even this time with Andrea for the Spring edition. But I chose to go the afternoon, so we had less hours for our visit. It was the first day on the four days fair but a lot of people was around the same. More stands were present. My regret was the scarce time to do more things: time flew and I couldn’t took usual tons of photos and buy all what I thought. So only a DrWho mug for upcoming dices and a comic book about Roman times. At the end a fast pizza at the station, waiting the last train to Terni for Andrea.

Another time Andrea came for a playtest session for Power Legion, the super heroes rules by Ganesha Games. We are working on them since some years but it wasn’t the right time for their publication because we were not so sure about the results. Even this time we changed some mechanics. After this session we found new ideas for a better gameplay. Andrea is writing the book just now.

Do you remember what I said about the wargame convention in Canino? Diego broke his car, Andrea broke his car, I broke my car (one foot indeed). So no convention for us from Rome. After the give up of this year Hellana and Salute, respectively to health and money problems, even Canino.

To resolve this sad situation, the day before we met with Andrea at Diego’s house, for a full playtest day on Power Legion rules. This time we had a half definitive written text, so we tried it with real slugfests.

A true kitchen game, because Diego have to buy a green game mat! However we had games packed with flying cars, crashed buildings, powerful blasts and big bosses at large. A lot of notes were taken to refining the rules. Another playtest is scheduled in the following days.
