X-Wing in Canino

It was a long time that we wished to visit our friend Narciso in Canino, former Legio Palatina chap. During this Summer we found the way to do it. And to play with something all together. This time we try his last passion: X-Wing.

He and his local friends (two children too) have a huge collection of starships and cards to give them more customisation. I liked the two games that we played. I never tried it before. This is a Wing of War evolution without due credits. Too much cards maybe, I would prefer a straighter play. It is simple, please don’t do it complicated. However I died with infamy all the two times…

A beautiful day, with a pizza launch and friendship. A note: Andrea was involved in a Pokemon Go hunt with the two children too…

A Portuguese arena

After the calendar and the Lisbon report, we return to miniatures. But this post is still related to Portugal, where this nice arena was made.

The only negative critic is that the shape is not elliptical. I like most the entrances at the terraces, but all the realisation is great. Spikes on walls too. Here we have a real Roman arena! If you speak Portuguese language, or if you use Google translator, you can know more on this arena on:

Lisbon

I’m busy at job and with my new house, so no abroad holidays in the last two years. And no real holidays at all. But I have got photos of past ones. I forgot to show you what I did during the 2013 summer. I promised that but other new things were more impelling, and day after day, they are 3 years. So Lisbon, at last! I have not the will to do something complete as a full report. But I create a thematic itinerary. I visited many places and museums with a military topic. I hope you enjoy all of this. And consider Lisbon for a visit because it is very beautiful, romantic and historic.

Ferragosto time

And even this year we are in the zenith of Summer. A pause about our little soldiers, to speak about bikinis. Do you prefer military uniforms or these two strips of cloth? Impossible to answer.

Who are these beautiful girls? They are Stellar, a popular Korean pop group. Don’t hear the music but enjoy the video.

3 more by Ganesha

Ganesha Games is not a lazy publisher. Well, something is missing in the schedule progress but we have a release every 2 weeks in the last months. Too many games to produce.

The English edition of Faustus Furius is out. And the Italian one? Due to work at job and at home, the translation process was slowed. But now we are at the final proofreading by Andrea. Than the editing by Nic. And after the final control, so the printing. Ready for Lucca.

More for Four Against Darkness. This is the first spin-off, a tale that is not in the same fantasy universe than other books. Here we have the same game engine but adapted to Arthurian quests. It is not a dungeon with paladins but a different kind of game. I like it more than the original one. In the future I wish to write a spin-off like this for gladiators.

After so many years finally we have got the first real OGAM supplement. Do you remember the Osprey game, you don’t? Here you will find an exhaustive book with Celts gods in an expanded version than that on the rules. Ready in the following week. If people is interested more will be preprepared.

ThreeA Marvels

Action figures are toys for adults with prices only for adults. I own something, but I’m not a collector due to money and space problems. However when I found some interesting items I share them.

ThreeA by Ashley Wood is my preferred label. I have got a couple of 1/12 robots and his comics. Nowadays they are realising some 1/6 action figures based on Marvel characters. As Spider-Man.

Another one was Iron-Man, 4 versions. Limited edition, so or you buy them quickly at obscene prices or you will buy them after at outrageous obscene prices.

L’Art de la Guerre

A photo of me with a Brancaleone t-shirt and a beard with too many white hairs. And a copy of “L’Art de la Guerre”, a rulebook from France that allows you to fight battles ranging from early Antiquity (3000 BC) to the end of the Middle-ages (1500 AD). It reminds something like DBA, isn’t it?

I and Diego were invited to Salini’s house in Arezzo for trying these rules during a Summer Saturday. The goal was to spread something new to revamp tournaments because after 13 years we are a little tired of DBA. And DBA 3.0 is not what we wished to resolve rules cryptology, geometric problems and to have combat results as historical ones. It is just another DBA with its problems, but with more game speed. Moreover this speed is not adding fun and history but delusion. I’m too busy with my things to study and play the new DBA. So, no more tournament for me since the DBA 3.0 was used for tournaments here in Italy.

I played two matches, a large one and a smaller one, to familiarise with rules. I didn’t understand all but I learned some lessons. There are various troop types and different values for what happen. A good thing are the demoralisation counters that add attrition to the play. Movement is simpler and linear than DBA, so you could play it even with a grid creating some modifications in the rules. My only regret is that you use almost a line for your army, but deep is partially simulated with attrition and not-so-free movement. You can consider it as a sort of Field of Glory more easy to manage and big as a standard DBA, or double DBA or triple DBA. It is not a revolutionary rulebook but a solid one where common and present rule concepts are in a better way. And I want to say that it wins for “best clear lay out for rules” category!

Salini is a very lucky man because he has, together with a beautiful family, a large space for his hobby that can host a mini-tournament. It is like a wargaming club, because he has availability of friends that play there. And they adopted these rules for usual gaming and maybe a tournament circuit. Instead, inside my bizarre mind, I’m thinking to melt “To the Strongest!” with “L’Art de la Guerre”, and a touch of Ganesha Games things, as my house rules for ancient times…
