Play 2018: gladiators

Some live role players were around Play Modena. But the really great thing was to watch some gladiatorial fights by local Ars Dimicandi section. Moreover I follow a lesson on Medieval knife combat, with kinds of move, countermove and counter-counter move. I was distracted by other things so I couldn’t stay here to watch all, damn! I want to live more living history combat experiences.

Play 2018: mechas

Even in a convention based on boardgames, and games in general, you can find something different as mecha models made by artisans as Kallamity. Moreover this was the first time that I saw Dust models in a stand. I like 1946 concepts, even if I dislike historical WWII vehicles with legs added. Some of their mechas could be useful for wargame in 28mm, but soldiers are bigger. On the other things, there were a lot of great and extremely big Gundam models but I haven’t the right photos about them to show to you.

Play 2018: overview

Now I’m in Lucca Comics & Games. A report will follow. But on this photo I was behind the candy store on the left. After two years I was in Modena Play again.

Every edition is better than before. This convention is the best for boardgames, and games in general, in Italy. You can came here to play with new proposal from editors. The modelling area is growing as the miniatures one. For children a pavilion was built. Other areas were for roleplay and 2D wargame. In the open there was space for food, beverages, music and cosplay. I think I will be here for all next editions. In this post a photographic overview of the fair. More next days.

Romics – april 2018

Two times every year, the comic fair of Rome. I can’t ideate new descriptions for it. It is always more huge, but the available money to people is always less and so this was the Roman fair with less profits for vendors. However here I helped the economy to rise. I feel as a patriot.

A portrait in manga style for me and my friend Paolo.

If female cosplayers were not sexy enough, the new sensation for comic fairs is body art. Young women in pants and paints. Oh boy…

Spring in 2018

We are in autumn but here I’m writing about spring? I’m late with the posts but slowly I’m make up for lost time.

This is the artificial lake built for the world exhibition of 1942 at the South of Rome. It has almond trees that as in Japan indicate the beginning of spring. We have only to wait almost 6 months to watch again this spectacle.

Autori In Gioco 2018

Playtests are the only form of games that I play. Here while we are testing dungeons for miniatures.

The card game about missing cats with its luxury original artwork.

And now a convention only for people who wants to show their games to propose them to editors and to playtesters. In this order. It was located inside a sort of hospice with a section for people who suffers of Alzheimer. On the other side of the road the Italian centre of secret services. Yes, it is weird. However some games were weird too.

And here to hunt some witches.

An original idea from some friend of ours. I hope to see this game published when it will be developed in its final form.

More weirdness in the coatroom: Christ of the crutches.

Snow

Snow in Rome is always an event. And it is fun to remember this at the end of Summer. It was the 26th of February. I went to work and I found the gates closed down. At 7.30 in the morning. Under snowfall. After a couple of hours someone brought the keys. Only a few were with me but however people presented to our counters. Some people is crazy.

Here some photos of my city like under an enchantment.

Winter is coming.

Più libri più liberi 2017

The main Italian fair for small publishers that is held here in Rome has changed its location. The shift is only of 100-200 meters, from a congress building built in ’50 but designed for the world exhibition of 1942 that never happened due to war, to a new congress building built with extremely slowness. At least the first was interrupted as construction by war, the latter was protracted in time only due to speculations. From a neoclassic fascist building to a glass and steel building. 60 years in the passage of style, fashion and technique, but the spirit is the same: a large building with empty and useless spaces to add solemnity. And none needs it, because the first one could absorb congresses needs. Moreover its lend could be too expensive to attire people to organise events. However, I paid it with my taxes so I visit it paying the ticket for the annual book fair. What to say? It is so beautiful and original, a white cloud with rooms and floors, all inside a glass box. In the last decades the best thing as architecture in Rome. But it is surely costly as maintenance. This building isn’t going to end well, I suppose.
As books, I bought only a few, I just have got too many of them.
