Prague 2018: Lego Star Wars [part07]

I think that Lego Star Wars was the brand that resolved Lego financial problems years ago on the edge to be closed down. Now Lego is one of the biggest game industries in the world. Here some things that I found in Lego museums. A day will be great to play a Star Wars wargame with Lego pieces.

Prague 2018: Lego [part06]

You can’t believe this but in Prague there are 3 Lego museums. In a place where museums only for tourist are usual, this couldn’t be so weird indeed. The first one is in the basement of a Lego store and it is narrow with a Lego history feel, the second one is in the basement of Hamleys and is an huge representation of historical buildings of Czech Republic, the third one is a little part of the railway modelling museum.

How to rebuild ancient Rome with Lego bricks: here the Forum Traiani. Last year we saw a fraction of it, new bricks and Roman minifigs are now added. To build the entire Forum could be required a lot of more bricks. But for now enjoy it.

Lucca C&G 2016: Lego [part08]

Another constant of Lucca C&G are Lego bricks. They are very popular nowadays. Here some builders bring their enormous creations.

Look at Scooby Doo and dinosaurs that follow chicken minifigs. They are small in the photo but you can see them.

This year was the turn for something WWII themed. Lego don’t produce them but there are some WWII models and minifigs in Lego world built by people who want to add a bit of history and war in this world. Think about to play with minifigs instead of miniatures: you can destroy and rebuilding things…

Brick Dictator

Lego is a toy manufacturer. All started as wood bricks, than plastic bricks. The fatal move was to put in this some mini figures, creating a world. After a crisis due to other new hobbies for children as videogames, now Lego is more famous than ever.

Minifigs are the people of Lego’s world. Nowadays they are sold in series and you can find a lot of kinds. But you can’t find strictly military kinds because of a pacifist politic of Lego. However independent (and almost illegal) producers fill the gap with pieces to build historical warriors. And there is someone as this Brick Dictator that use stop motion to create minifilms with minifigs about military battles. Here some examples, on his YouTube canal you can find more.

Modena Play 2016: wargaming

After the overall part in the previous post, here the focus is on wargame relate part of Modena Play.

We stayed two days, the first as visitors and to speak with people. This is true even because we are preparing a new game for Lucca Comics & Games together with another editor here present. The second day we were guests in the space of roleplay editors, so Andrea could run some demos of Advanced Song of Blade and Heroes.

Wargame part is not so historical hardcore oriented as other convention where we go usually. Here there was a WH40K tournament: masses of mega tanks that shoot each other at 10cm distance…

Following, another tournament, with Flames of War: masses of historical tanks that shoot each other at 10cm distance…

Inside the tensile structure there was the two-dimensional wargame section. A place where cardboard pieces are positioned with tweezers.

Wings of War games. The author flew around the tables.

Lego imitators do what Lego have to do: historic Lego sets as Romans or WWII.

At this point Gundam kits is a modelling genre in and of itself.

There were some dioramas with German WWII theme full of details and with mixed settings. Really beautiful things!

More wargames were around. As more boargames and interesting things. This is only a partial report of what you can find in Modena Play. I hope to return here before another 5 years.

Forum of Caesar

In this blog I don’t post photos of Rome because I’m born here, so I’m habituate to all this. And so I don’t think that I live in a so beautiful and ancient city. Moreover I can only think of how disgusting is management of Rome. Because I live here and it is not so easy.

In the Summer there are some tourist visits in places closed to public. As this one in Forum of Caesar. You can visit it together with a group following a multi-medial presentation played on walls. Headphones as audio. Externally you can look at people that moves silently among ruins.

In November the weather was not rainy and not so cold, then they prolonged visit time. However at night cold and humidity seeped through jackets.

Night is necessary for playing presentation. And lights are very suggestive. However in these photos you can see Colosseum and Forum and Market of Trajan. No Forum of Caesar photo. Well, I was too much involved in following the presentation…

Lucca C&G 2015: Gundam [part8]

Lego world meets Gundam world. And this is only one part of the constant influence of that anime on anime/comics/modelling fandom. A very active Gundam club in Italy exists. So we can find always new stuff on this world.

Speaking about modelling, here another example.

Gunpla is called the world of Gundam modelling. It is a sector in its own distinctive life. Here the latest proposals, as first Zion and Earth mechas showed in Origins, or as spheroid mechas from one of the infinite series inspired by original Gundam, as this Orphans. Prices were cheap, so I was tempted to buy something.

And now something more “hard” modelling related. These are Italian Zion inspired stuff by Kallamity. Complexity and beauty.
